Zanzibar - Photographs posted by Mohamed Loudhimy


















Dear SJCS Members

Mohamed has kindly provided some wonderful photographs of Paradise Zanzibar to be shared by all our members.

Mohamed says "I think one door is where Igi Moniz lives (Bosco's brother).

The Baghani house with low balcony, there used to be a BAR there and a carpenter shop, remember name ? Also one Goan or Parsi family living upstairs. This building facing the Cathedral ghalee. Few months back the Port Building on the sea front next to Customs house collapsed. The Tembo guys have leased the place and will rebuild it. Shall be of to ZNZ tonight for few days. Next time let me know in advance so I can join you there".

My family and I used to live in the house opposite the church galee. We lived on the second floor and Gemex (who used to own sports shop on main road) lived on first floor. Next to us was the bar and then the Carpenter's shop.

I admire your all-round up-to-date knowledge on almost everything taking place across the globe where you often comment and provide updates, and now bringing to our attention the following ... quote by Samir Kharusi

"How the world has evolved ... The current Al Said is the third longest yacht in the world, according to Wikipedia. The world's longest yachts may be found on Wikipedia as per links below".

This luxury yacht owned by the Sultan Qaboos of Oman is just a dream and I feel proud we have on record our own 'Al Said' sailing from Zanzibar with Mr. Chief (Ida D'Souza's father) who was chief engineer. What great memories with many of us remembering times spent on this ship, particularly the sports visits to Daressalaam as George certainly remembers and with his posting of the photograph of 'Al Said' - "A LITTLE NOSTALGIA"
